ABBALUX – DIY Lamp

Printing with dye sublimation Canon Selphy 800 printer, I’m constantly left with a lot of negative color layers of my photos as a trash. So I tried to come out with some use of these colorful foils. The lamp frame I’ve found on the street fitted perfectly into this little design project. I’ve named it ABBALUX as it revoke the memories of 80ies disco dance floor lights.

Diapositive Chandelier

Idea for this chandelier was borrowed from one I saw in the furniture shop yet the original was so different. Having in possession a box of old educative diapositives it was just a quick synaptic flash to visualize this in complete form. Sourcing the steel rods and mesh from my stainless-steel-obsessed father was a snap. Then it took one sunny afternoon spent with wire cutting and bending to form the cylinder and stick the rods inside.

Lego Pinhole Camera

My interest and research on analog photography inevitably led me to pinhole cameras. Lego seemed to be the easy way to built my own, being inspired by other people. This is the design for 6×6 BW film. Oneway rewind mechanism was one of the most tricky elements of the design together with the shutter. But hey, it’s Lego, so everything is possible 🙂 Inner chamber contains additional box made of black paper for better light sealing. Back plate is fixed by two stripes of Velcro. It also allows to view the shot numbers on the back of the film roll through small trapdoor with red acrylic glass to prevent major light leaks. Horizontal spirit level was added to aid the positioning of the camera.

Flames

Melancholic glitchy track from around 2002. I think the inspiration for this song came during one of those long staring moments by the camp fire, realizing the dancing flames remind me hairs of one muse I knew at that time.
